UAE launch their first satellite

The first DubaiSat-1 remote sensing satellite, designed and built by the Emirates Institute for Advanced Science & Technology (EIAST), will be launched into space on July 25, 2009.

The Emirate satellite DubaiSat-1 will be launched from the Russian-Ukrainian Dnepr launch vehicle. EIAST is currently developing a satellite program. It is already known that it will be used to diagnose weather forecasts, including predictions on the formation of fog and the occurrence of sandstorms and the observation of water quality in the Persian Gulf.

Images obtained from the DubaiSat-1 satellite are planned to be used in the development of urban development projects, in scientific research, transport and telecommunications, housing construction, cartographic surveys and when working with a graphic information system.

"The launch of DubaiSat-1 will be the first step by the UAE in the field of space projects. The EIAST Institute will make every effort to develop science and technology in the country and turn it into a center for space research, space research and international cooperation in this field," said the Chairman of the Board of EIAST Muhammad Nasser Al-Ghanim. The introduction of DubaiSat-1 into operation consists of three stages: the preparation of ground-based control systems, communications, reception and processing of data, the launch of the satellite into space and the start of work in accordance with design tasks.
