Sharjah Central Highway Turns Into Two-Level Autobahn

The municipality of the Emirate of Sharjah unveiled an ambitious project to transform the Al-Wahda Highway, the main transport artery connecting the city of Sharjah with Dubai, into a two-level expressway.

According to the project, intersections and roundabouts on this Sharjah highway, which is the most congested, will be replaced by viaducts, tunnels and bridges providing non-stop traffic.

Between the newly opened traffic junction on the street to them. King Faisal and the intersection next to the Golden Center, a two-level road will be built, 1.6 km long, with two lanes in each direction.

The second section of the two-level highway will be built over the roundabout of the square to them. Sheikh Hamid bin Sakra Al Qasimi (also known as the Flying Saucer roundabout), and the denouement will be upgraded to a crossroads.

The project will also affect the roundabout of the Culture Square, under which an 800-meter tunnel will be built, allowing unimpeded movement from the city center towards Sharjah International Airport and the road to Daid. Implementation of the project will cost Sharjah budget 477 million dirhams ($ 131 million). The completion of construction is scheduled for 2010. According to statistics, at least 110,000 cars pass along the Al-Wahda highway daily.
