The construction of the first tram line in Dubai will begin in January next year

The Dubai Railway Agency for Railways has approved a project to build the first city tram line.
Work on the construction of the Al Sofouh line, named after the area it will serve, will begin in January 2008 and will take from 21 to 27 months.
It will connect the luxury developments of Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence through the free economic zone of Dubai Media City and the campus of Knowledge Village, with Madinat Jumeirah complex, Burj Al Arab sail hotel and Mall of the Emirates.
It is planned that modern light trams will become an alternative way of transportation for 180,000 citizens and tourists. The tram line will be fully integrated into the public transport network, including bus and metro.
