Court employee with accomplices convicted for bribes in Dubai

An employee of the Dubai court and his two accomplices will go to jail for bribes.

A criminal court in Dubai sentenced a man and two accomplices to a crime of ten years in prison for amending more than 100 court sentences for bribes totaling almost $ 42,000.

The defendant, a 21-year-old citizen of one of the Gulf states, worked as an assistant issuing court orders. It was established that he extorted bribes in exchange for changing judicial decisions in criminal matters, appeals and issues related to residence.

The position of the accused allowed him to access court documents in order to correct them during data entry.

During the 15-month investigation, it turned out that the accused, with the help of his accomplices, amended 103 sentences issued in absentia from January 2015 to March 2016.

The man took bribes in the amount of 100 to 1.5 thousand dirhams ($ US 272 - $ US 408) for his services.

Among the amended documents were arrest warrants and a verdict against a suspect in issuing an unsecured check. Through the efforts of a court clerk, a fine of 200 thousand ($ US 54 thousand) dirhams was reduced to 10 thousand dirhams ($ US 2.72 thousand). In another case, the six-month prison term and deportation were commuted to a fine of AED 2 thousand ($ US 544).
