Russian President and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sign Declaration on Strategic Partnership

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed the Declaration on Strategic Partnership of the Russian Federation and the United Arab Emirates.

On June 1, 2018, in Moscow, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed the Declaration on the Strategic Partnership of the Russian Federation and the UAE.

The declaration applies to such areas of cooperation as trade, economic, financial and investment, cultural, humanitarian and scientific and technical spheres, energy, politics, security cooperation.

The UAE and the Russian Federation agreed to increase the supply of agricultural products and food, as well as mutual investments in the agricultural sector.

In addition, Russia and the UAE have agreed to reduce the cost of international roaming for subscribers of the two countries, to create a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East and coordinate efforts in the global aluminum market.

Russia and the UAE will also cooperate in the fight against piracy and law enforcement; to develop contacts between chambers of commerce, business councils, professional associations and unions of the two states. In both countries, cultural information centers will be opened in support of the cultural ties between the two states.

Vladimir Putin called the signing of the Declaration "another good step in strengthening our bilateral ties." He stressed that trade between the two countries last year grew by 31 percent, and also noted the active work of the UAE investment fund with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

The Crown Prince arrived in Moscow on an official visit accompanied by National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnun bin Zayed Al Nahyan and State Minister of Foreign Affairs Anwar Muhammad Gargash.

The Kremlin’s press service notes that during the working visit, issues of further building up Russian-Emirate cooperation in the trade, economic and investment spheres, as well as topical issues of the international and regional agenda are discussed.
