UAE toughens punishment for hindering emergency services

The authorities of the United Arab Emirates are taking new measures to combat offenders that impede the passage of emergency vehicles.

The UAE Ministry of the Interior has announced a fine increase for drivers who do not give way to emergency vehicles - ambulances, police, rescuers.

The fine for this violation can be up to 3 thousand dirhams ($ US 817). Violators can also be arrested for 30 days.

The new rules will enter into force on July 1, 2019. They are aimed at improving road safety, reducing deaths from road accidents and achieving the performance of the National Program approved by the UAE government.

Recently, the Ministry also announced that it will monitor violations committed against emergency vehicles using smart cameras and patrol cars to ensure public safety.

The Ministry of the Interior emphasized that road users should listen to emergency sirens and give priority to service employees rushing to help.
