In Dubai, looking for the owner of a bag with gold bars

Dubai authorities awarded a worker who discovered a bag of gold bullion weighing 15 kg and immediately reported the find.

Last week, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) awarded a cleaner from Pakistan named Taher Ali Macbul. The story of his noble deed has become popular on social networks.

Once again, cleaning up a multi-story parking lot in the Al Sabkha area, Taher saw a very heavy bag. At the request of the security guard on duty, he looked inside to find information about the owner, and found that the bag was filled with gold bars.

"We were shocked to find so much gold - it is not surprising that her bag was so heavy," he said.

Without a second's hesitation, the cleaner decided to hand over the find to the authorities.

The total weight of the ingots was 15 kg. At current market prices, the value of the find exceeds AED 2.5 million (about $ US 700 thousand).

After the incident, MacBool, who has been working in the UAE since 2013, called home to tell his family.

“My father told me that there could be billions in the bag, but I did the right thing by returning them,” said Taher, “I have a poor family, but my father always taught us to return what we don’t own.”

It is still unknown how and why gold bars were in the parking lot. The owner of the find did not contact the police with a statement about the loss.
