Dubai authorities approve new rules for jet skiing off the coast of the emirate

The Office of the Dubai Marine City Free Economic Zone has distinguished zones along the coast of the Persian Gulf of the Emirate, where jet skiing will be allowed. The scheme was drawn up on the basis of a study of the movement of boats in the coastal waters of Dubai and agreed with the Committee on Health and Rescue Services. 300-meter water-free buffer zones appeared on the beaches in Dubai Marina, Umm Suqeim 1 and 2, as well as Jumeirah 2 and 3. Thus, the safety of those bathing in these places will be ensured. The department also published a set of safety rules that drivers of jet skis should apply: for example, it is forbidden to ride in the dark, without using a life jacket, in excess of speed, and also in the area of quays and recreation areas and near yellow buoys installed in the water. Children under 16 can only ride with an adult. Amer Ali, Executive Director of DMCA, said: “Allocating areas for jet skiing is a strategic step towards regulating maritime traffic, maintaining high standards of maritime safety in accordance with international best practices, and ultimately, the economic prosperity of Dubai.”
